>> right now on "eyewitness news" we're counting down the days until christmas. malls are jammed full of shoppers trying to grab those gifts before it's too late. good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. it was a chilly day for shopping today but that hasn't stopped hordes of people from filling stores all around the area. "eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon is live at the cherry hill mall. rahel i was out there earlier. i already know what that crowd is like. >> reporter: oh, well, you already know, natasha, good evening. that's right. unside the mall right now you will find shopping bags on shopping bags. so many people inside right now and many folks telling me before they even got here or met with these crowds they

were met with crowds out ther there. from the traffic just getting to the mall, to the packed parking lots, once shoppers arrived. >> complaining so much. >> we couldn't find parking for like 30 minutes. >> we were looking for parking for 30 minutes. >> yeah, 30 minutes. we were look, for valet but we couldn't find any. >> a whole lot of people. parking lot was full, everything. it's a mess. >> reporter: one thing is clear here at the cherry hill mall we are just days away from christmas. it's the so-called super saturday. >> it's a lot of cutting like through. >> there's a lot of pushing and shoving at h and m. i had to like -- >> reporter: step back. >> yeah. i was like to raise my hands up and go. >> reporter: as last minute shoppers battle the crowds and long lines retailers tried to make it worth their while with major savings while groups like the salvation army hope they would get a piece of the holiday shopping action, too. and to accommodate this demand

cherry hill have extended their mall hours today through wednesday, they're open until 11:00 which natasha i'm very personally happy about because i still have some shopping to do so i'll send it back town we're going to head inside the mall. reporting live, rahel solomon cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> thank you very much. take care. plenty of the shoppers were bundled up before they got into the mall i'm sure. finally feels like december in philadelphia in jack frost/big boulder they made snow for skiing season but will the weekend chill stick around? meteorologist lauren casey is live in the weather center with a first look at the forecast. lauren. >> thanks, natasha. hard to believe our temperatures were right around average but we've been sold so mild over these last really two months that it felt so cold and right now temperatures they're chilly. 39 degrees right now in philadelphia, still hearty breeze out of the west northwest around 18 miles an hour so it feels more like

30 degrees right now. wind chill also 30 degrees down the shore. temperature 37 degrees. we're in the 20's in the poconos with that westerly wind up around 14. feels like 17 degrees right now and with that winter like feel we also have some winter like scenery on storm scan3 showing as you few light passing snow showers moving through parts of the poconos, seeing a couple flurries that did pass by parts of central new jersey over the past couple hours. as we head into the overnight period things are going quiet down a bit and we'll see a few clouds linger over the next couple hours. otherwise clear sky conditions overnight tonight. still breezy all throughout the evening hours and overnight with temperatures dropping and we'll be dropping down to our coldest night of the season so far so we'll talk about where temperatures will settle in by morning. our highs tomorrow and then a big, of course warmup in time for christmas. we'll be talking about record warmth once again so i'll have all that coming up in your full forecast in just a few. >> thank you lauren.

police meantime southwest philadelphia are looking for a killer at this hour. they say a 23-year-old man was shot to death in broad daylight on the 5500 block of bellmawr street. it happened about 11:00 this morning. police say they found the 23-year-old man with gun shot wounds to his neck, back and shoulder. doctors pronounced him dead at the hospital. anyone with information should contact police right away. one person is in the hospital tonight after a car slams into a house in mayfair. it happened this morning about 6:30 on the 3100 block of levick street. crews from licenses and inspections responded to the home because part of the wall caved in. no word toght on the victim's condition and the cause of the crash is also still under investigation. and now to campaign 2016, the democratic presidential candidates are gearing up for their last debate of the year. tonight's big faceoff comes as the party scrambles to clear up some controversy. cbs news correspondent jeng

has more. >> reporter: democrats line the streets in manchester, new hampshire showing support for presidential candidates ahead of their third and final debate of the year. political analysts say voters in the critical primary state are eager to hear plans for national security, income equality and ways to combat drug abuse. >> with the increase in prominence of national security issues they're starting to pay more attention to the commander in chief question. >> reporter: but the issues could be clouded by controversy. here at the media center, journalists from around the world have been following a civil within the democratic party. on friday, the democratic national committee discovered four bernie sanders staffers improperly took information compiled by hillary clinton's campaign. early saturday it regained access after reaching an agreement with the dnc. >> this is sort of a side show issue that -- that i don't think will and shouldn't be

the focus of the debate tonight. but the data breach is expected to come up during tonight's debate. >> for bernie sanders it puts him on the defensive going into a debate in which he really needs to be on the offensive against hillary clinton. >> reporter: both sanders and former maryland governor martin o'malley are scrambling to catch clinton the dominant frontrunner. weijajang for cbs "eyewitness news." >> 15-year-old davion dobson was killed by a group of gunmen who fired into a crowd. dobson jumped on top of three girls to shield them. family and friends are calling the teenager a hero for his actions. >> it was good to know that he was willing to protect others but it was sad because he had to give up his own life for i it. >> investigators say the shooting was gang related but

the targets were chosen at ran do. so far police have arrested one person in connection with the shooting. and zatarans is recalling red beans and rice. the boxes were sold by giant food stores. they have an affected sell by date of july 31st. consume ertz should not return the product instead just throw it away. contact them for a refund. it was a hero's welcome for one member of the military this morning. army private first class joshua finney arrived home safely at philadelphia international airport. in addition to his wife and family members, they were there early to escort finney to his home in delaware. >> it's a blessing. i mean, i don't always get to be home. i'm always away. so it's a great feeling to actually be around family. >> reporter: private finney

>> tonight on the health watch a new study finds most families taking a new born baby home from the hospital

make safety mistakes when it comes to car seats. researchers in oregon found 91 percent of families surveyed made at least one serious error regarding installation or use. the study was printed in the journal of pediatrics. doctors say some children with appendicitis can now be treated without requiring any surgery. researchers found in three out of four kids with uncomplicated appendicitis were treated successfully with just antibiotics. they do caution that appendicitis can be unpredictable and parents should not try to avoid surgery against the advice of their doctor. also check it out. all of these christmas baskets are going to needy families. "eyewitness news" at sacred heart church on ferry avenue in camden, new jersey. there are 1,000 of these baskets in total and they are filled with food and lots of love. volunteers began delivering the baskets to families in south camden today. the church is doing it to help feed the hungry this holiday

activity will start to wane as we head into the overnight period. neighborhood network showing us the chilly temperatures, 37 degrees right now in cinnaminson, wind speeds still up there around 7 miles per hour, norristown wind speeds up around 11 miles per hour. current temperature 35 degrees in wayne and mays landing reporting 35 degrees and most of our reporting sites down into the 30's, save mount pocono down into the 20's. 28 degrees right now. chilly night in wildwood at 39 degrees and we're at 39 in philadelphia with those wind speeds 15 to 20 miles per hour adding to that wind chill element in a big way. feeling more like 30 degrees right now in philly, feeling like 20's in millville. same case in the lehigh valley, feeling like teens in the poconos and as we head into the night tonight you'll definitely want to bundle up if you're heading out on this saturday night. wind chill temperatures only dropping as we head throughout the overnight. tomorrow morning feeling like middle 20's in philadelphia to wake up to at the 7 o'clock hour, feeling like 24 in trenton and as we head through the day tomorrow, it's still

going to be very blustery and very cold. still feeling like 38 degrees in philadelphia and those wind chills will likely not escape the 40's as we head through the day tomorrow, so if you're heading out to the eagles game you'll want to bundle up for sure. wind chill temperatures still chilly by monday morning but then we are going to kick in a very big warmup as we head into monday afternoon but overnight tonight our seasons son's coldest dropping down 28 degrees. we have yet to be in the 20's so far this season but our average low, 29 degrees so we'll be pretty close to that. as we head into tomorrow, sunny and brisk a high of 45 degrees. not as breezy as the conditions we had today. west to southwesterly winds at around 10 miles per hour but it will still add a little bit of a wind chill element. december days, well, the trend has been for warmth with the exception of today. days where we've been at or above 60 degrees so far this month, seven. the record in all time history in philadelphia is eight of those days for the month of december which occurred back

in 1998 and 1951. we will break this record as we head into the seven-day forecast later this week but for tomorrow, we won't. temperatures chilly across the region. 38, sunshine, less wind in the poconos, still chilly down the shore high temperatures in the middle 40's and we'll top off in the middle 40's in philadelphia and then we do kick off that warming trend monday afternoon for the first full day of winter, 56 degrees for the high temperature. mostly cloudy conditions. a passing shower on tuesday. we're in the low 60's. mid middle 60's by wednesday with a very good chance of some shower activity and there is a 70-degree reading there on christmas eve. >> wow. >> that would destroy the record high temperature and christmas at this point looks really nice. a few passing clouds and a high of 60. >> that is so unbelievable. i am so okay with this. you have no idea how okay i am with this. >> we're going need ugly christmas shorts instead of sweaters you. >> i totally agree.

jumper. he had nine points on the day but check out sam jones stepping up for penn hits one of his five 3-pointers on the day. penn will win 73 to 66. we have delaware state take on temple. dell state looking for their first win of the sean. haywood with the drive and great slot from underneath. they were down by eight at the half. and of course the temple cheerleaders in their festive holiday outfits. second half temple a little sloppy again. temple hangs on to win 78 to 63. well, the flyers will try to continue their winning ways in columbus tonight against the blue jackets. the orange and black on a seven-two-one run right now. to the eagles, eagles with a huge matchup tomorrow night. the cardinals will visit them at the linc. pretty much seems like we've said every game this is a must win game since they picked up that seventh loss of the season against the lions on thanksgiving. tomorrow they'll have to knock off a division leader but the eagles have picked up some
